Pals Blog Hop: Mother’s Day Card

2017badge-denim

Welcome to the Families First Pals Blog Hop for April 2017.  We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our 2017 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are featuring projects that are all about our families. This is a great time of year to think about what to make for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or upcoming graduations. And, family vacations are just around the corner… how would you want to remember those special family moments? We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

For today’s project, I decided on a Mother’s Day card but the sentiment could easily be changed out and used for a thank you, get well, birthday, or just about any other occasion. I have to admit, I didn’t purchase the Jar of Love bundle when it first came out but after seeing some incredible cards designed with it, I had to have it. For today’s card, I made a bouquet and didn’t use any of the mason jars because the flowers are stunning on their own. I loved the pairing of Calypso Coral with Peakaboo Peach in the Cupcakes and Carousels DSP which served as my color inspiration.

I only used Calypso Coral and Peakaboo Peach for the flowers but the two-step stamps on the flower give it extra depth. For some, I inked up the stamp, lightly stamped a piece of scrap paper to get some ink off and then stamped my image.

Dog gone cute birthday

My father-in-law has a little brown dog similar to ours (they are actually related to each other). I wanted to incorporate the pup into his birthday card. I used the party hat from the No Bones about It set which gives a great touch to the turtle.

Thoughtful Branches sympathy cards

I recently had a custom order request which included 6 sympathy cards. I knew I could make six cards of the same design but I wanted to make a few different options; I’m sharing two of them here today. Both are made with the leaf in the Thoughtful Branches retired stamp set and the sentiment from the Thoughts and Prayers set. I like the simplicity of the cards.

The second one was inspired by a card I saw online.

Global Design Project layout challenge

I love the variety of the Global Design Project challenges – this week I participated in their sketch challenge. Here is the sketch that inspired my card:

GDP078

I love the color combination in the By The Shore Designer Series paper so I paired the sketch challenge with some of this great DSP.

Dogs are the best

Growing up, we never had any pets -unless you count the few weeks with a goldfish! When I met my now husband, I also met (and fell in love with) his dog Hannah. Hannah’s fur is a light brown (see below for a photo of her) and I wanted to make the dog look like her so I used my aqua painter in Sahara Sand ink. Since the stamp already has a heart around the dog’s collar and the sentiment refers to a heart, I used the framelits from the Everyday Jars to add a row of hearts to the bottom.

I think anyone would be happy to receive this card and it would also be great for pet sitters, dog walkers, groomers, and veterinary staff.

Sympathy Card

When it comes to making sympathy cards, I prefer a very clean and simple look. For this card, I used the copper emboss powder for the Thoughts & Prayers tree and I love the look of copper and navy together. I used the bone folder to create a border in the layer under the navy.

Card Challenge

Today I participate in the Global Design Project theme challenge: winged creatures and went with fireflies. Although it is still February, spring has arrived here in South Carolina with flowers and trees in bloom. That means that summertime and fireflies will be here before you know it!

I love the pop that the copper embossing powder provides on the jar lid
